Everyone has that one friend whose word is unassailable when it comes to food recommendations. My cousin, DJ, swore by Kiki’s Chicken and Waffles in Columbia, SC, near Columbiana Centre Mall. That was good enough for me.
The Service
We had a large party so it took awhile but the server methodically worked her way through our order and didn’t make any mistakes. I call that a win. The food took a minute to come out but there were like 25 of us and it is soul food. The drinks included various flavors of excellent Koolaid. Think diabetes in a cup. It was so good! Just like Grandma used to make!
The Main Event
Everything was GREAT. I usually don’t capitalize things because it is like shouting but it really was one of the more flavorful and tasty meals I have had at a restaurant in a minute.
I had a Red Velvet Waffle topped with Cream Cheese Icing and Strawberries and Fried Chicken. It was all I hoped it would be! I come from a long line of soul food cooks so my standards are high but nothing disappointed. From the vegetables to the wing appetizer, the meal was impeccable. I’m licking my lips as I type this post.
The Takeaway
I wouldn’t go here if I was in a rush. With that being said, Kiki’s is one of my new go to spots in Columbia! I’m still dreaming about that plate!
